How it All Started...

It all began about 10 years ago, I was 20 years old and my grandmother became ill. She was in the hospital and I wanted to make something for her to keep while she was away from her home. I decided to make a quilt. I had very little information about quilts or even how to make one much less. I did some research on the internet and bought 3 books to read to get started. It took me about 6 months with college, having fun, and life to read all of the books and buy my basic supplies to get started. I finally started my first quilt and it took me about 2 months to finish. My Grandmother loved her quilt, she didn’t want it out of her sight. Thankfully I was able to give it to my Grandmother and she had some time with it when she finally came home. Although we lost her shortly after, she made a request to be buried with her quilt and that’s just what we did.

I consider myself a new quilter. Even though I have created many quilts within the last 9 years or so, I didn’t have the time to learn as much techniques as I could have while in college, enjoying being young, then finishing a Masters program, and now relocating. Now I have a lot more time to really learn more about quilting, which I love. I don’t know anyone who quilts so, I decided to start a blog to meet other quilters, learn different techniques, and journal my quilting experiences.

So, I quilt because…
1. I feel a connection to my grandmother every time I create something.
2. It relaxes me.
3. I love the feeling I get when I give it to someone special.
